Recovered Shades

Old lampshades never die, they just wait for new light! The truth is, they don't make them like they used to! Older lampshades were made with hand welded frames that were individually designed to fit each lamp. That is why many of the shades made in the early 1900’s were so very charming and unique. Most of today’s lampshades are mass produced to fit numerous designs therefore they lose the charm of the shades from days gone by.

Recovering a Lampshade

Recycling an old shade is often possible. The shade to the Left had a rusty frame and was dilapidated. After refinishing the frame we covered it with a designer fabric of our customer's choice. Although this fabric was not flame retardant, we were able to use a flame barrier interlining to protect the outside fabric. It was then lined with one of our flame retardant linings which we keep in stock. The use of a coordinating fabric on a shade creates an attractive accent in a room.
